A Sky Saga

There’s this Mars square Pluto happening now in our solar system and it’s the first of three. It could all seem like doom and gloom when the planet of assertion & impulse (Mars) meets with the planet of shadow work & collective unconscious (Pluto), creating a myriad of hells – each of us with our nine circles of inferno within our own minds and mirrored outside of us.

Traditionally, Mars and Pluto rule the underworld – in evolutionary astrology, these are just parts of our psyche that we leave unchecked, unloved, and stuffed in a corner for we fear their power over us.

But a dragon can be a foe or an ally – the choice is yours.

These next few months are Mars heavy. Mars stays in Aries till January 2021 and moves retrograde through the warrior pioneer sign and makes all these challenging aspects (aka, has the hard convos) with a multitude of planets in the sky. Like Pluto, for example.

Here’ the key – as long as we are doing the work of challenging our dragons with the intention of eventually riding atop them as we defeat the true enemy, we’re progressing. As long as we’re doing the work of courageously responding the the flames and fire being thrown at us, we’re progressing. As long as we’re seeing our deepest wounds and fears as allies that strengthen us rather than debilitate us, we’re progressing.

The goal is to harness the courage of Mars and the deep healing powers of Pluto and move forward in our own hero’s journey.

And because astrology is deeply personal, maybe this all really doesn’t resonate with you. Maybe instead of feeling this fire tension these past few days, you were instead feeling the brief Finger of God that recently happened, a literal sign in the sky pointing you towards your true North and grounded in the reality of productive sacrifice. Seeing the way ahead means leaving the path/past behind. Or maybe you were feeling the Taurus Moon, swaddled in a post-shower bathrobe deep thinking atop your freshly washed comforter. Astrology is deeply personal, and we respond to the current astrological weather based on who we have come to be from the blue print of our birth chart.

My advice for these next few Mars heavy months comes in two pieces. First, find your Mars & Pluto, your aggression & your shadow, your impulse & your unconscious, your courageous warrior & your inner alchemist. Remember your warrior and your alchemist when confronted with Mars square Pluto moments – a fight with your partner regressing you into a child’s maturity, an outmoded fear pattern keeping you from taming your dragon, the lack of will keeping you from carving new neural networks when it comes to intrusive thoughts from past trauma, a shadow being brought to you again and again and again.

Second, find those pockets of Venus. The sorbet sunset after a harrowing Wednesday. The first bite of homemade blueberry cheesecake. The post-shower ritual of slathering coconut oil onto summertime chapped legs. It’s within these gifted moments of beauty and harmony that we can allow ourselves to rest, replenish, and resume taming the dragons as they arise.

Collectively, we’ll see what’s to come.
